A Spring in Our Step & a Song in Our Heart

A Spring in Our Step & a Song in Our Heart

The following couple of records within our blog is going to be about our G Adventure overland trip.  That one, the very first of 3 or 4 records, sees us travel by air from Arusha, Tanzania through Kigali and Gauteng to Livingstone where Victoria Falls sits around the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Following a day in Livingstone, we ongoing our 21-day-trip-in-a-truck and visited to Chobe National Park, the Okavango Delta and also the Kalahari Desert in Botswana.

To be able to reduce the price of our flight from Arusha to Livingstone, that ought to happen to be in regards to a 3 hour flight, we travelled for 18 hrs with the evening including two 5-hour stopovers. Upon arrival, i was as exhausted as our new travel-mates that had originate from other continents!  Our tour started having a preliminary gathering, meeting our courageous leader Wendy and our driver Stephan, both from Nigeria.  Feeling tentative about coping with several 12 people for 3 days of mostly camping, i was looking forward to a simple crowd

.  Diving in to the group experience we went for supper, relaxing right into a social time where we started to obtain a sense this assortment of individuals from Canada, The country, England, South america, Norwegian, Holland, France, and Israel.

Victoria Falls in the finish from the wet months are a sight to become seen…or not, really, since the Zambezi river am full the mist produced through the lots of water careening within the edge masked the falls almost completely. We frolicked within the spray from the falls, getting drenched towards the skin. Well, Used to do while Jim faithfully protected his camera within leased rain poncho.  Anytime there is a minute once the falls emerged with the spray, he’d sneak as numerous photos because he could without jeopardizing water on his camera. Although you will find neverending adventure activities to partake (plane tickets, horseriding, zip-lining, etc.) round the falls, we spent all day every day wandering, mesmerized through the rainbows, energy and sweetness of the Seventh Natural Question around the globe.

Our first day travelling in ‘Zambezi’, our new houseOrvehicle by which we’d be investing many hrs, everybody was filled with anticipation of the items lay ahead that can compare with a lot of kids going to camp.  The audience was at its ‘forming’ stage with lots of travel and becoming-to-know-you conversations penetrating with the drone from the truck once we barely diminish the 5200 km journey where i was starting

. We entered the Zambia/Botswana border, in the confluence of Chobe and Zambezi rivers. Following an mid-day within the hot sun soaking within our campground pool, our first trip would be a river cruise siting tigers and hippos playing around water along with a gorgeous sunset within the Chobe.

Up vibrant and early at 4:45am, we packed up our tents and boarded a game title drive vehicle and looked Chobe National Park for wildlife.  The good thing was whenever we were notified by a few guides that there have been a couple of male lions inside a specific vicinity so we discovered an excursion group establishing a have a picnic.  Our guide cautioned them from the sitings, switched to all of us and stated, “I needed to let them know it’d be considered a real blow to tourism if something happened.”  Yes, it might!  Regrettably, we never saw the lions however we did see many amazing wild birds and creatures (kudu, the ‘Chobe chicken’, tigers, crocodiles, warthogs, hippos, tigers and much more). And, so far as I understand, the picnickers managed to get out untouched.

Following a very lengthy drive to Gweta having a stop for supper within sign nevertheless, “DISCLAIMER – this can be a wildlife area. You’re preventing at your personal risk”, we showed up at Planet Baobab campground and hang up camping under baobab trees as well as an almost full moon

. Up at 5:30am the very next day, our next stop was among the best encounters from the trip. I was ‘poled’, by our new friend Tony, inside a mokoro boat through area of the Okavango Delta to some rose bush camping. Our evening walk among the zebras then a fire underneath the full moon and singing, dancing, doing the limbo and testing out slack lining using the folks from Boro village who led the trip, was an fantastic experience.  A lot of us didn’t speak exactly the same language yet we loved a night of every other’s company interacting in lots of different ways.

A few more times of travel and camping together with a rose bush walk and rose bush dance performance through the San people from the Kalihari desert, as well as on Day 8 we showed up within the town of Windhoek, Namibia.  I was remaining inside a hotel and heading out for supper!  Exactly what a treat after what appeared just like a very very long time over sleeping a tent. The thrill was palpable. So we got the only real rain from the entire trip throughout on that day and evening.  How lucky!  Following a nice shower, obtaining a small laundry completed in the sink, making up ground on emails and telephone calls home, we headed to Joe’s Beer House where game meat may be the niche around the menu.  Jim and that i shared a wonderful dish with oryx, zebra and springbok.  I was unfortunately goodbye to 7 in our group but we acquired 4 new people making our new more compact number of 9 through out the trip.

This overland trip has demonstrated to become simpler than I’d initially thought it might be.  The camping is really fantastic with this tent’s skylight roof and also the cozy mats. The folks are wonderful and even though we very often feel rushed and obtain fed up with packing and unpacking, there has been lots of countryside and getting encounters which are memorable.
