Sunburn – Mix 2 teaspoon tomato juice and 4 tablespoon buttermilk and apply on the face. Leave for 1/2 hour, and wash off with cold water. Very effective and soothing home treatment for sun-burns. Alternatively mix olive oil with equal quantity of vinegar and apply an hour before your bath for sunburn relief and relaxation. Make a paste of Barley, turmeric and yogurt in equal proportions. Apply it over the area of sunburns for sunburn relief and treatment. A thin paste of sandalwood applied to the sunburn area is beneficial and extremely soothing.

Wrinkles  – Apply coconut oil on the portions of skin and face where wrinkles set in and gently massage every night at bed time. Banana is wonderful as an anti-wrinkle treatment. Mash 1/4 banana until it becomes very creamy. Spread all over face and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water followed by a dash of cold water. Gently pat dry and you will see the difference very soon. It also gives freshness to your skin and makes it more shining.

Common Cold – For dry and stuffy nose, try normal saline or salt water nasal drops made by adding 1/4 teaspoon of table salt to about 4 ml lukewarm water. Make a fresh solution every few days keeping it in refrigerator. Use a clean dropper to instill 1 to 2 drops in each nostril about 3 to 4 times daily for common cold. Garlic juice made by adding few drops of garlic oil to a teaspoonful of onion juice and diluting it in a cup of water is helpful for common cold. Ginger tea or a teaspoonful of ginger juice taken with equal quantity of honey brings relief from common cold. For kids and adults alike, almonds are excellent for treating running nose and cold. 2-3 almonds for adults and 1-2 for kids taken in the morning empty stomachs are excellent. You may also add ½ tbls of fine turmeric powder to a cup of hot milk and take at bed time. Work wonders. Do not take anything after this and your cold will be treated very soon.

Cough – Soak almonds overnight. Remove their skin. Make a paste of these almonds with little butter and sugar. Very useful for a dry cough. Hot tea with lemon and raspberry jam, drink as much as possible. Drink hot milk with honey at bedtime for cough relief. Fresh milk cream (1 tbls) with a pinch of salt taken at bed time is also helpful in case of wet cough. Don’t have anything (not even water) after taking this.

Low BP – Drink a glass of raw beetroot juice 2 times a day, for at least a week first thing in the morning and you will see the difference.

High BP – Mix 1/2 onion juice and 1/2 honey. Take 2 tbls once a day for 1-2 weeks. Eat 1 Papaya on an empty stomach daily for a month. Do not eat anything after for about 2 hours.

How to cope with postpartum Depression

For many women, pregnancy and giving birth to a baby is a divine feeling and they feel excited, thrilled, relieved and ecstatic some times all at the same time having gone through that process. But for many women, post delivery depression and anxiety is pretty common. This is all the more evident in modern city life where due to nuclear families, the support system is not that effective and it is the woman who has to sacrifice her career at least initially after the birth of the child. Many a woman feels irritable and crying after giving birth and they also feel worse for their failure to figure out why they feel so.For-Pregnancy Following few factors will help you understand the process more objectively. While they may not do away with all your post delivery blues, they will certainly help you cope up with the same more effectively:

1.      Remember that you are not the first woman to have that feeling after birth of your child. A large number of women have that feeling and they feel disgusted thinking that they are the only ones who feel that way. Statistics claim that as many as 90% of new mothers experience tearfulness, feelings of sadness, anxiety and inexplicable mood swings in the first few days after delivery.

 2.      Do not indulge in over anxiety. Motherhood is a natural phenomenon and lot of women have unreasonable fear of their inadequacy regarding the way they feed their little ones or try to bond with them.

 3.      The experience of becoming a new mother has been so romanticized by the media and society in general, that a fairly common phenomenon like postpartum depression comes as a rude shock.

4.      One possible scientific explanation for post delivery blues is the sudden drop in hormones such as progesterone and estrogen levels after childbirth.

 5.      For many women, child birth is a road block at least initially in their orderly routine and way of life. They can not go back to their own free and carefree life styles and this causes uneasiness and irritation.

6.      While for many women, bonding with their new born is a natural phenomenon, for many others, it is not that natural and that is why a feeling of guilt and depression engulfs them. Remember you are not alone who has to make efforts to bond with your child. Have patience and you are going to have that selfless love and affection for your child very near in future.

7.      For many women, the expectations of feeling joy and happiness after child birth are so much that they sort of feel anti climax when they are not able to reach the same level. Remember that you are neither the first nor the last one who has decided to bring another life to this planet. So take every day during that process as it is and do not try to over exert your self.

8.      Post delivery blues can not be wished away in many cases, it is better to cope with them rather than be in the false hope that every thing is fine when it is not. Do not hesitate to take professional help if things seem to go out of control and despite your best efforts, you are not able to have a grip over your life.
